With today’s strip, we bring Backfat Bossonova, our third story arc, to a conclusion. As I mentioned before, it turned out better than I’d anticipated, and we got a lot more eyeballs on this story than on any previous. Good times had by all. I’m glad you’re here to listen to our little stories and to chime in with your thoughts. Thanks for coming–we’re having a great time!

As I’ve mentioned in the past, I write all these posts on Sunday night the weekend before. Based on the sheer volume of work I have ahead of me this week, the fact that school is starting up again, the fact that I’m a week and a half behind on my comic-drawing chores, and the fact that we’re in the middle of repainting our basement, I’m forecasting that my future self is very, VERY happy that Friday is finally here. (Or, “there.” Or whatever.)

Today’s strip was actually a real trick. I rewrote it and rewrote it and the ending just did NOT feel right. So, it was with some trepidation that I sat down to actually lay out the artwork. I don’t know what it is about seeing the characters reading my lines, but somehow it always jars something into place.

In the end, I’m happy with this piece, and moreover, I’m happy with Chapter 3 as a whole, now that it’s all but finished. (The final strip runs on Wednesday, but Andrea took on the art chores for that one.) As it was coming together, something about it didn’t quite feel right, but looking back now, I’m pretty chuffed about it. (The fact that we started drawing some pretty decent numbers during this arc probably has something to do with it. I’m so fucking vain.)

Anyway, have a good weekend, all.

Part of that is because we’re remarkably busy people, considering how lazy we are, and part of it is the fact that the overwhelming majority of content on television is crap, cooked up because they have too many channels and they have to fill them with SOMEthing.

My favorite example of this was Ghost Hunters. We have a friend who insisted that we HAD to lift our TV embargo to watch this show. It’s compelling television, he said. Coolest thing out there.

What Ghost Hunters was, was about six seconds of genuinely interesting footage per episode, which they play and replay over and over again. This amounts to about three minutes of interesting content a week. The show is an hour long.

My friend is a goon.

So, every now and then, Andrea and I find ourselves housesitting or hiding from her family during Thanksgiving or something, and we end up watching TV. Andrea ends up despairing. I end up angry. And we turn the thing off and vow never to watch TV ever, ever again. Someday, we’ll follow through on this.

Zara is in charge of the strip today, because Bill – er, I mean Joe – spent the weekend moving furniture around for me, for no particular reason.Sometimes, you just need to see all your options, you know? I’m hoping that we can clear enough junk out of the basement to host miniature chariot races.

There isn’t much to say about today’s strip – I just thought it might be fun to tell lies and remind people of their mortality. I did the research and wrote the bones of the piece, then Joe fleshed it out for me. I’m really better as a background jpeg-maker type than a strip writer. The idea for one-offs such as this is serve as a fill-in for the movie review strips on weeks where we absolutely do NOT want to go see anything that’s currently playing. Or rent anything. Or pretend to rent anything.

Hope you all are having an OK time staying awake today.

But Cataclysm hangs low on the horizon. Personally, I doubt even I can resist its siren’s call.

It’s hard not to fall in love with the game, and for me, a big part of that was the map. You can’t go 20 feet in-game without coming across some vista of staggering beauty. If ever there was a game that screen shots were created for, it’s WOW. If I fault the developers with anything, it’s that they haven’t created a more robust screen capture utility.

Even if you don’t complete a single quest, kill a single mob, or brave a single dungeon, it’s worth the $15 a month just to walk around the place. No wonder Andrea wants to go into 3-D design with inspiration like that.

Which brings us to the 2-D design you see evidenced over on the right side of this post. That’s “The Birth of the Internet”, a limited edition print created by Andrea. You oughta buy one here, if only to help her earn enough money to get to the 2010 Siggraph Convention in Los Angeles this summer. Plus, I mean, JESUS. LOOK at it. There’s awesomeness dripping off it and into a puddle on the floor. You may want to buy two–one to keep and one to masturbate into.

Fondest regards,
Luke
