Happy Monday, all.
You know who needs to do something? Darin Morgan. If you don’t know the name, he was the guy who wrote the very best episodes of the X-Files. Jose Chung’s From Outer Space, War of the Corpophages, Humbug, Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose–all the work of Darin Morgan. He only wrote a handful of scripts (plus one or two for Millennium, which I didn’t watch), but every one was gold. He was like the Charlie Kaufman of television.
Last I heard, he was doing some kind of work on Fringe, the X-Files’ spiritual successor. But his filmography is painfully short. Sad.
I bring this up because Zara and I recently tried rewatching the series from start to finish. Problem was, after we finished the last of the Morgan-scripted episodes, it seemed pointless to continue. All we had to look forward to was David Duchovny’s martyr-complex episodes, John Doggitt, and the gradual crapification of the mythology. Still, there was a sweet spot of about two and a half seasons where the show just sang.
Incidentally, I’m enjoying the AV Club’s recently rebooted retro review-fest of the series. A nice little timekiller for nights when you can’t seem to drop off (like tonight, for instance).

This is an immensely clever strip, and totally worth your vacation.
