Good morning, all.
The script for this strip was one of the rare instances where Zara objected to something I wrote on the basis of content. She often gives me notes and pointers on execution, but this is one time where she thought perhaps the joke itself was in poor taste. And she’s right. But it’s also one of those instances where I just couldn’t stand to NOT tell it.
I think I mentioned in one of the earliest liner notes for the strip that Evil Arts and Crafts grew out of a number of sources–one of which was a doomed little screenplay I penned a year or two ago. It starred many of the same characters (albeit in embryonic form) and touched on some of the same ideas, but I wanted to avoid using any of the material from that script in EA&C, at least at first. Figuring out the new characters, finding the right tone for this work, etc. But, after 10 months of the strip, I thought, why the hell not.
That’s all. See you back here next week (we’re a little off our schedule due to the holiday) for our Week 2 Review of the most hysterical comedy of the summer.
Joe
