Just to get this out of the way, the title for today’s strip was Andrea’s idea. I couldn’t come up with something, so she gave me a pretty multi-purpose piece of advice–just rip off Red Meat. Always a good idea, regardless of the dilemma, so here we are.
Andrea also pointed out that I seem to enjoy writing Joe more when he’s inebriated, delirious, or otherwise impaired, and I can’t deny that. As I’ve pointed out in other posts, it’s not easy writing for yourself when you’re trying to make your other characters look good. (Although my characters’ real-world analogues might debate how hard I’m trying to make them look good. I wonder how Real-Dean will feel about yesterday’s strip, with its liquid ham analogy…)
Regardless, it’s just more fun to write crazy people than it is to write buttoned down people. That’s probably why the British make such good comic writers–they’re surrounded by the staid and traditional. When they bust loose, they bust way the hell loose.
