Comic: The Problem with Ideomatica

The only part of Clerks 2 that felt somewhat authentic to me was the subplot where Randall tries to “take back” a bit of slang that he feels in appropriately pigeonholed as racist. (That and Rosario Dawson bouncing up and down in a blue tank top, natch.) The whole thing felt like something I would attribute to my mom. The bit about the slang, that is, not the tits.

Strip26_Kicker*Sidenote: “(Nothing But) Flowers” happened to come on iTunes as I started writing this post. Weird how things line up sometimes–it’s the song that played over the opening credits for Clerks 2.

So, yeah, that’s where this strip comes from. In other news, I love me a good spit take. This one isn’t as good as the one in Daybreakers, which gets my vote for best in cinema history. Another reason to enjoy that picture.

In still further news, I contend that the logo from Adventures in Babysitting is the pinnacle of graphic design in the 90s. Strokes, drop shadows, gradiants, bevels…all with that neato forward momentum leaning font and a big damn pink triangle in the background. This is what made me love working as a designer, and it is also why I was no good at it.

Sorry for being a little scattered. I’ve been working on strips for four hours now, and I have homework breathing down my neck. I leave you now.

And this is why it is important to use only words that one already knows the mean of, indubitably.
