Movie Review: The Wolfman

Saturday, Andrea and I had the rare privilege of watching a movie in the theater with Dean and Bronson’s real-life analogues. The bad news was, it was Joe Johnston’s “The Wolfman.”

Make no mistake–they built some gorgeous sets for this movie. It looks like a billion bucks. But that’s pretty much where the praise begins and ends. It takes an hour to get going, and once it does get going, it just keeps getting bigger and stupider, until the inevitable CGI smackdown confrontation.

Which would all be fine, if Joe Johnston gave us anyone or anything to invest in. Benicio is just the most visible example of this problem. He doesn’t play it stoic; he plays it bored, and that reflects on the rest of the proceedings.

    Sigh…

Couldn’t agree with you more. We were asking “why did any of these movie greats agree to do this?” I mean, they got Danny Elfman to do the music. I should have been blown away, but instead it was just marginally better than Twilight.
